WEEK 12 (Winny)

Why is reality TV so popular for both programme makers and TV viewers?

"The rise of reality TV came at a time when networks were looking for a quick fix solution to economic problems within the cultural industries.  The deregulation and marketisation of media industries, especially in America and Western Europe, also contributd to the rise of reality TV, as it performed well in a competitive, multichannel environment." (Hill, 2005)

I think what Hill said above is right, that reality TVs are so popular because programme makers can earn more.  Also, I believe it is because audiences can be involved in programmes so they have high interest on it.  Reality TV is popular for TV viewers because it is also a kind of entertainment for them.  Sometimes there are also audiences that are more enthusiastic and they might want to join in as a member of those reality shows.  Also I think it has a reason for those programmes to broadcast at night, after dinner time.  No matter you are a student or a salary man or what, it is easy to gain pressure in life.  Personally I think it is quite enjoyable to reality TVs with family and laugh together.  Different to drama, as dramas might lead you to think a lot more.  However reality TVs when you finish watching it, that's it.  For programme makers you gain profit and for TV viewers you just have to enjoy.
