According to Burn's article, he states that sometimes modern media such as video games, can make the children feel like they are being the hero, and especially in a first person view they can feel it stronger (Burn, 2005).
I think the fantasy genre makes people, especially children and young adults feel excited. As long as merchandising is still on-going, fantasy genre can always relate to the modern media. Take an example, most of the action games and the role playing games have a background based on a fantasy world. I would suggest that it is because people are always interested in things that they don't usually see. A created fantasy world excites people's feeling. As far as I've concerned, modern media such as video games satisfies and helps to relieve audiences' curiosity. Sometimes when you've watched someone being a hero, you might imagine how that feel like. Everyone would've think of themselves being a hero, or heroine in their childhood. People work on modern media is keen on creating works on a fantasy genre because they are catchy and easy to hook customers.
