In what ways does Tax (2002) suggest Earthsea may still be relevant today?
Tax(2002) Suggests that Earthsea still maintains a relevance in our modern society because it provides a constant reliability, in theme, structure, and character. "All times are changing times, but ours is one of massive, rapid moral and metal transformation.... It's unsettling. For all our delight in the impermanent, the entrancing flicker of electronics, we also long for the unalterable.... So people turn to the realms of fantasy for stability,, ancient truths, immutable simplicities."Tax (2002) And to this end I would definatley agree. Not just with regard to Earthsea, but the whole fantasy genre really. When you pick up a fantasy book even if you don'tknow what the story will contain content wise there is a comfort in knowing that you know there that will probably be one central charcter that has to face the odds,, and over come some kind of ordeal, to save something or someone. You can garuntee their will be a mgicial mysterious component. Knowing these certainties does bring comfort. This constant stability that fantasy can offer is what brings relevance in todays society.

Hi Trev
ReplyDeleteYeah I do agree you on saying that the plots are always similar. Myself I sometimes feel bored and hates that... and in the same pattern, they just end up happily. I think when it's necessary, a different end might be easier to bring audiences up.
